Guiding mature adults through nature's most rewarding spaces in Podyjí National Park
16 years of expertise in outdoor recreation, trail design, and nature-based wellness for seniors
Background & Journey
How It Started
Václav's path into outdoor recreation wasn't something he planned from day one. During his studies at the Czech University of Life Sciences in Prague, he volunteered with the Czech Association for Outdoor Education, leading nature excursions for school groups and community organizations. That's where it clicked — the moment he realized how much people genuinely wanted to experience nature, but often didn't know where to start or felt intimidated by complex trail systems.
After finishing his degree in Environmental Management in 2008, he spent several years as a trail coordinator for the Moravian-Silesian Tourism Board. He wasn't just managing routes from behind a desk. He was out there, walking every trail in different seasons, identifying problems, understanding what worked and what didn't. But something was missing.
By 2012, Václav noticed a real gap. Older adults — people with decades of life experience and genuine curiosity about the outdoors — weren't getting quality information or guidance tailored to their needs. So he shifted focus entirely, specializing in senior leisure activities and nature-based wellness. That decision changed everything. He's now spent over twelve years working directly with the Podyjí National Park Administration on major initiatives, including the comprehensive meadow walk assessment (2019) and the viewpoint accessibility audit (2021).

Core Belief
Why This Work Matters
"Age shouldn't limit someone's ability to experience and appreciate nature's beauty. That's the driving force behind everything I do."
Václav's approach to outdoor recreation isn't complicated. It starts with a simple observation: most seniors have the curiosity, the desire, and the physical capacity to enjoy nature — but they're often given generic information or intimidated by trail descriptions written for younger, more athletic audiences.
His philosophy centers on three core principles. First, authenticity. He doesn't sugar-coat trails or oversell experiences. If a meadow walk has uneven sections, he'll tell you. If a viewpoint requires a steep climb at the end, you'll know before you go. Second, practicality. Every guide he writes comes from field experience, not theory. He's walked these routes dozens of times in different seasons, different weather conditions, at different times of day. Third, respect. He treats every person who reads his work as someone with valuable life experience and legitimate preferences about how they want to spend their time.
What drives his work is a deep conviction that nature is for everyone. Not everyone needs to summit mountains or rush through long-distance hikes. Some people want to sit on a bench overlooking a meadow for an hour and listen to the wind in the grass. Some want to walk slowly, stopping frequently to examine wildflowers or bird activity. Some want company and conversation; others want solitude. All of these are valid, rewarding ways to experience nature. His job is to make that possible.
In practical terms, this means his guides include specific details that others skip — exact distances, typical walking times, bench locations, shade availability, what to bring, realistic difficulty assessments, and genuine insights about what makes each route special. He approaches each article with meticulous attention to safety, clear communication, and the kind of detail that comes only from spending years in these landscapes.
